Motivated by Covid-19 wise building owners and management are taking additional steps to upgrade their sealed commercial buildings using UVGI technology to inactivate viruses, bacteria and fungi that function as a pathway to infection in the recirculated air of building HVAC systems. UVGI is a mature and highly efficient technology that relies of UVC light. It effectively incapacitates pathogens rendering them harmless and incapable of reproduction. Trying to entrap live SARS-Cov-2 viruses with standard office building HVAC filter systems is like trying to sift sand through chain link fencing (see illustration). GMG will help you design and install UVGI to make your building a healthier environment for its occupants.

Air Purification Unit

Installed parallel to the air flow, the BioWall is a unique patented product in the area of air quality, combining power and contact time.

Installing a BioWall in the ventilation duct allows for maximum disinfection due to a prolonged exposure of the bio-contaminants to high-power UVC. The control box is equipped with dry contacts for BMS.

The BioWall has been successfully tested by EPA for Homeland Security in the United States.

Air Purification System with HEPA Filter

Ideal for buildings that often struggle with the smell of unpleasant odors, such as garbage rooms, locker rooms, shops, classrooms, etc.

The process is done in 4 steps. First, bacteria, viruses and mold are sterilized by a germicidal UVC process, which takes place in the aluminum reaction chamber. Second, odors and chemicals are treated by UVV photo-oxidation. Third, a pleated prefilter MERV 8 protects the blower. And lastly, HEPA filtration captures particles with a diameter of more than 0.3 microns at 99.97%.

The sterilized and filtered quality air is then distributed throughout the room.

  • Units may be mounted into new or existing air duct systems

  • Constructed of corrosion-resistant Stainless Steel

  • Air is subjected to rays from Germicidal Ultraviolet lamp or lamps, which reduces and/or eliminates the growth of bacteria, mold and spores, controlling the spread of airborne cold and flu viruses as well as other airborne transmitted diseases

  • Observation Port/Sight Glass Assembly allows for visual inspection of the lamp, without the need to remove the unit from the duct

  • Continuous disinfection without special attention

UV Disinfection Solutions for Continually Occupied Areas Improve Air Quality & Kill Viruses.

With schools openings this the fall semester and businesses increasing capacity, there is still a concern that students, staff, and visitors may get sick from the coronavirus. Schools may be at higher risk because of person densities and the lack of fresh air circulation in classrooms, hallways, auditoriums, etc.

With everyone doing what they can to stop the spread of the virus, including wearing masks, those efforts only go so far. Other precautions must be taken to help cut down on the spread of the coronavirus, which causes the COVID-19 disease.

One way to do this is to make sure your building has a working HVAC system with the right kinds of filters that are in good working order. However, sometimes old buildings have no central air circulation or HVAC systems and installing or replacing an entire system can be costly.

One alternative to replacing your HVAC system is to install air purifying systems that can help disinfect the air as it moves through the unit. Another alternative is to install UV disinfecting lights in occupied areas.

Larson Electronics has several types of UV air purifiers, including our IND-AHC-TRF series for forced air systems to mount in the ceiling. These solutions are ideal for schools, colleges, universities, as well as for businesses of all types.
